Safety standards for side bumpers

Note that side bumpers have different safety standards depending on the size of the truck. Specifically, the basic conditions are that the shape is an integral plate, slatted, net-like, or rod-like (3 or more), and that the distance between the front and rear wheels and the flat part of the bumper (not including corners) is 400 mm or less. .

Any structure that minimizes the risk of pedestrians and bicyclists getting caught in the rear wheels is acceptable. For example, even a side bumper shaped like a single steel pipe conforms to safety standards. The distance between the front and rear wheels and the flat part of the side bumper (not including corners) is 400mm or less. The distance from the lower edge of the side bumper to the ground is 600mm or less when the vehicle is empty.

〇Trucks with a gross vehicle weight of 8 tons or more or a maximum load capacity of 5 tons or more

The shape is one-piece plate, slatted, net-like, or bar-like (three or more), and the distance between the front and rear wheels and the flat part of the side bumper (not including corners) is 400 mm or less. When the vehicle is empty, the distance from the lower edge of the side bumper to the ground is 450 mm or less, and the distance from the upper edge to the ground is 650 mm or more. In addition, the distance from the upper edge to the cargo bed, etc., is stipulated to be 550 mm or less.

If you do not meet the above criteria, you will not be able to pass the vehicle inspection, so be careful when installing the side bumpers.
