mudguard rubber

Mudguard rubber is a part that protects the body of the truck from mud, gravel, and rainwater that are thrown up during driving. Mudguards are consumables and need to be replaced periodically.

Advantages of installing truck mud guard rubber

Mudguard rubber for trucks is generally made of a material called EVA. EVA is an abbreviation for Ethylene-Vinyl Acetate ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer resin, and is a material with flexibility and elasticity. It has a property similar to rubber, and it also has the feature that it does not harden even when it gets cold. In addition, it is resistant to moisture and has excellent light resistance (mainly the effect of ultraviolet rays), so it can be said that it is an ideal material for truck mudguard rubber.

Truck mudguards protect the body from scratches and dirt. Trucks kick up pebbles, dust, mud, etc. that are rolling on the road while driving. Also, the rainwater that collects on the road surface cannot be prevented by the fender alone because it is rolled up by the tires while driving. These can stain the body and cause corrosion on the bottom of the loading platform over a long period of time, but you can prevent this by installing a mudguard rubber.

Mudguard rubber is not obligatory to be installed, and you can pass vehicle inspection even if it is not installed, but it is recommended to install it to protect your car.

How to install mud guard rubber and precautions

Mudguard rubber cannot demonstrate its original performance due to deterioration over time or damage during driving, so it is necessary to replace it periodically.

Mudguard rubber is basically bolted to the mudguard stay. When replacing, first remove the existing mudguard rubber, then cut the new mudguard rubber to match the width of the mudguard stay. Next, drill bolt holes in the new mudguard rubber to match the bolt holes in the mudguard stay. Finally, attach the mudguard rubber to the mudguard stay with bolts to complete. At this time, if corrosion such as rust is found on the bolt, replace the bolt as well.

Mudguards may be attached directly to the fender, or may be attached to anti-trap extension stays behind the fender. In this case, use a long iron or stainless steel plate on the fender or extension stay to sandwich the mudguard rubber and fix it with bolts. The edges of the plates to be sandwiched will come into contact with each other and the mudguard rubber will easily break, so care must be taken such as gently bending them outward.
