Upper receiving / upper shaft for large-sized dump, tailgate hinge

Many of the hinges used for large dump trucks have a tailgate hinge structure in which the main body and arm are integrated and the door opens only upward, instead of the structure in which the door opens by combining the upper support and shaft for 2t or 4t dump trucks. is. This is because, in the case of a large dump truck, the weight of the dirt and rocks to be loaded is heavy and the load on the door is large, so it is necessary to strengthen the hinges without separating them.

The inspection standard for the tailgate hinge of the earth and sand transport dump has been changed

After January 1, 2016 (January 1, 2016), the standards for tailgate hinges and tailgate dams for dump trucks undergoing new inspections or preliminary inspections for the first time have changed. The two new standards are:

  • The height from the top of the side tilt to the top of the hinge is 55 cm or less
  • The width (length) of the hinge is 45 cm or less

Please see below for details.

It is now possible to mount hinges that are taller than conventional standards. As a result, the door can be opened wide, so this modification is suitable for large dump trucks that carry larger rocks.

Yamada Body Works also offers large tailgate hinges that comply with the new standards.

Types of tailgate hinges

There are multiple types of tailgate hinges for large dump trucks handled by Yamada Body Works due to differences in manufacturing methods and shapes.

There are two manufacturing methods:

  • forging
  • press mold

A simple explanation of the difference in manufacturing methods is that in forging, iron is hammered to increase its strength and form a shape, while in press dies, iron plate parts are welded together to manufacture. Forging is integrally molded and has fewer constituent parts and fewer welding points, so it is stronger, but requires a mold and is more expensive. Press dies are weaker than forging because each part used is welded, but they are inexpensive because they do not require dies. I have.

There are three types of shapes.

  • A type that opens the door by combining the upper support and the shaft
  • A tailgate hinge in which the main body and the arm are integrated, the arm is on one axis, and the door can only be opened upwards.
  • A tailgate hinge in which the main body and the arm are integrated, the arm has two axes, and the door opens only upwards.

Tailgate hinges, in which the main body and the arm are integrated, the arm is on a single axis and the door only opens upward, are the most abundant types, with heights ranging from 130mm to 400mm. The 400mm high type tailgate hinge is a new product introduced by the revised standards. Conventionally, the height of the hinge was only about 300mm, but the high type is 100mm higher than that. The door opens wider than before.

The tailgate hinge, in which the main body and the arm are integrated, the arm has two axes and the door opens only upwards, is called a wide catch, and has a special structure. In the past, the height of the hinge was increased to increase the length of the arm, allowing the door to open wide. The Wide Catch uses two axes to increase the length of the arm, realizing a structure that allows the door to open wide without raising the hinge.
